Fuchs, Ernst: Monumental Collection of All 36 Original Illustrations/Engravings of the Sefer Yetzira and the 32 Paths of Wisdom (1930 - 2015) A contemporary Renaissance man, Fuchs was an Austrian painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor, architect, stage designer, composer, poet, singer and one of the founders of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. He lived mostly in Paris, but with extended stays in Israel and the United States, which very much informed his varying styles and themes through his prodigious career.
Offered is a complete collection of his monumental work based on the texts of the Sefer Yetzera (Pre-Kabbalistic Jewish Mysticism) and the Thirty-two Paths of Wisdom, totalling 36 original illustrations and engravings, each numbered and hand signed by Fuchs. This is edition 282/297. For this collection there are 14 original engravings (etched engraving, etching-needle, burin), inset plates numbered and signed by the artist, 7 of them in a separate portfolio, 22 full-page color illustrations in text. The French and English translations were specially executed by Professor H. Zafrini (1975). The German translation is the work of Professor F. Meyer (1830). The types used for the Hebrew text were engraved in 1858 with text reproduced by serigraphy and then gold embossed. The 24 point Garamont type was selected for the text of the translations. Printed on Arches wove paper 30 x 22" and comes in a gamet velvet box-folio 32 x 24 x 2", front cover screened in gold with a menorah (seven branch candlestick) designed by Fuchs. Entire folio weighs close to 55 pounds. The collection has been beautifully archived and maintained. The illustrations and text in near to mint condition, and the folio in very fine condition with only minor evidence of wear.
