Unique Alaska Pipeline Memorabilia, Including "First Crude Oil From the Alaskan Pipeline". 5" sphere containing a smaller sphere of oil and a sign, "First Crude Oil From the Alaskan Pipeline." The larger sphere is displayed on a 4 x 4 x 1½" mount with a plaque, "Claude Akins/Appreciation/Dowell Safety Program." With 9½ x 14¼" bookends made from equipment used to lay the pipeline. Also, desk weight from an original section of the Trans-Alaska pipeline, 1 1/8 x 2¾"; a Lucite case, 3½ x 3½" with map of Alaska and red line showing the Prudhoe Bay Field. Additionally, a medalion bearing a bust of William H. Seward under "North to the Future" and celebrating the centennial of the Alaska Purchase (1867-1967).

Construction on the Trans Alaska Pipeline System began in March 1975 and was completed in May 1977. The first section of pipeline was pressurized with nitrogen on June 20, 1977, and oil was introduced behind it. Because of the cold temperature of the pipeline and the slow rate at which oil was introduced, it took 31 days for the first oil to travel from Prudhoe to Valdez. Estimate Value $300 - UP
