Very Fine Late 19th Century English School -- Artist's Name Illegible -- Bath Day for the Family Dog. Bath Day Late 19th Century English School, oil on canvas. Signed but artist's hand illegible. However due to the manufacturer of the stretched canvas stamped on verso W. URQUHART/ 157, HIGH STREET/ NOTTING HILL GATE/ 327, EDGWARE RD, LONDON W. we can date this work at about 1892-1895 based on the database of the National Portrait Gallery of British Art Suppliers 1650-1950. Here is a wonderful domestic scene of a woman having heated up a large pot of water on the fire in order for the boy to give the dog a bath. Oil on canvas boasts wonderful details, the worn apron, the cherubic faces, and the absolutely great detail of the tub and adorable dog. Canvas measures 16 x 21" framed to 26 x 30". We have a second painting in the auction by this artist; they would make a superb pair. Antique gilt wood frame has some dings, paint loss and minor repair but compliments the work nicely. Estimate Value $1,200 - UP
