Tony Curtis -- Naval Veteran, Acclaimed Screen Actor, Writer, Acrylic and Fabric Collage. "Little Angel!" (1925-2010) One of the most popular film stars of the late 1950s and 1960's, Tony Curtis enjoyed a fine career in Hollwood with his looks and talent in comedies and dramas alike, with many absolute classics (HOUDINI, TRAPEZE, THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS, SOME LIKE IT HOT, SPARTACUS, THE BOSTON STRANGLER AND THE GREAT RACE). Throughout his life he always enjoyed painting, but in the 1980s he developed his talents into a second career which lasted into the final years of his life. In 2007, his painting The Red Table was acquired for the permanent collection by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, a fine testament to his work. Offered here is a wonderful example of his humor and self-deprecation by incorporating a child's wall hanging, and enhancing with a photo transfer of himself onto the panel and boldly surrounding with colorful designs and painting "Little Angel" onto the quilt. This piece was the cover of the Tatu Gallery, Beverly Hills brochure for his exclusive show. The collage measures 28 x 21" matted and framed to 34½ 28½". Curtis boldly signed as was his style along the bottom. From his personal collection and stamped as such on the canvas on the back. Estimate Value $900 - UP
The Lisa Deutsch Collection.
