Stunning ca. 1842 Portrait of an Early 16th Century English Woman in Antique Gilt Wood Frame. Mid 19th Century painting of an early 16th Century woman, possibly an actress of the theater. We were able to date this gorgeous oil on canvas portrait based on the British art supplier's faint stamp on verso as cataloged on the National Portrait Gallery website: Dimes & Co. 91 Great Russell St. Bloomsbury, London. (1842-1843) Canvas is 23 x 19" framed to 29 x 25" in one of the most extraordinary antique frames we've offered. One stem at bottom of scroll is missing otherwise intact. Painting itself has had a dime-size repair, likely decades past and well done so as to be hardly noticeable. This is quite the antique piece, unsigned and in overall fine condition.
