Stanley, Robert -- Celebrated Pulp Artist of the 1940s and 1950s. Original Pulp Art, Rawhide Range (1918-1996) Post WWII freelance illustrator whose work and talent were in high demand by publishers of pulp paperbacks that depended so much on compelling cover art. Bantam, Popular Library, Beacon, Dell, Eagle, Lancer and Lion all contracted works by Robert Stanley, especially Western, crime and bad girl titles. Here an original painting for the cover art for a 1952, Popular Library Western paperback by acclaimed genre writer, Ernest Haycox. Entitled "Rawhide Range" this was a well-regarded collection of ten short stories, the first short story being the title of the collection. Oil on board, piece measures 22 x 16" and when examined out of frame, the white borders have marks and notations by the publisher's art director, with handwritten instructions as to scale, size and screen density. It is stamped in border in red Jun. 13, 1952. The borders have moderate paper lifts on lower border but instructions are very legible. The actual artwork is in superior condition and is immensely appealing Western art. Conveys with a near mint copy of the paperback boasting the original art published in October, 1952.
