Rüger, H. Otto -- Late 19th Century, Early 20th Century German Portrait Artist. Another Couple of Pints Outstanding Late 19th Century early 20th Century German pub painting, oil on thin wood panel, by German portrait artist H. Otto Rüger, Munich, Germany. While auction records show his portrait subjects were usually the elite of Munich, here he has perfectly captured a working class tavern regular in wonderful detail; bar menu deteriorating on cracked wall, the period-perfect detail of the clothes, the ruddy complexion of a pint too many with a phenomenal illumination of the face by tavern lanterns to his left. Panel is just shy of 20 x 16", framed to vintage gilt wood frame, 23½ x 19½", signed by artist on the beer barrel towards lower left side, and has been cared for wonderfully for 100+ years.
