Plimer, Andrew, Celebrated English Minature Portrait Artist, Rare Oil on Canvas, 1829 (1763-1837) Celebrated portrait artist of The Royal Academy of Arts in the late 17th and early 18th Century, Andrew Plimer born in Wellington, Shropshire was known for his extraordinary miniature portraits painted on ivory almost all unsigned. The details captured of his subjects are breathtaking. In our research of Plimer we found scores of his miniatures sold in auctions worldwide all approximately 2 x 3" oval selling for thousands of dollars but hardly any full size portraits have been sold in the last ten years. Offered is a portrait of woman, oil on canvas measuring 11¾ x 9¼" and remarkably what appears to be in its original gilt wood frame or at the very least, one clearly over a hundred years of age, 16¾ x 14". This portrait of a woman of means is extraordinary in the details of her face, hair, lace collar and most especially in the skin tones and the eyes. Plimer has signed and dated his portrait along lower left of oval edge which most of his miniatures do not have. Very fine condition. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
