Painting of George Washington in the Style of Gilbert Stuart. Oil on board, 17 x 13½". Bust portrait of Washington after Stuart's Vaughan format, which shows Washington slightly turned to his right. This painting is signed "STUART" at lower left, but Gilbert Stuart did not sign his paintings. Stuart's Athenaeum format, with Washington slightly turned to his left, is what we see on the one-dollar bill.The effect of this painting is softer than the Stuart paintings. The vintage frame, which is 20½ x 17¼", is gilt wood with red and gilt surround. Very attractive. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
