Oliver, Myron Angelo -- Celebrated Early 20th Century Coastal California Artist. Monterey Fishing Boats (1891-1967) Celebrated California artist of landscapes, cityscapes and the California coastline. A long time resident of Monterey, California, Oliver began painting at a young age, studied art at Stanford then New York City at the Art Students League. He joined the Army and fought in WWI, married a fellow art student and returned to Monterey where he founded the Carmel Art Association. He painted throughout much of his life, as well as pursuing his interests in fine frame and furniture making. Offered is an exemplary example of his work, likely from the early 1930s boasting spectacular colors and capturing perfectly the soft light that is so very much a part of Monterey. Bold strokes and an abstract interpretation of the harbor is why Oliver is treasured by so many. Oil on canvas, 25" x 30" framed to 30 x 36". Painting is in excellent condition with some of Oliver's sketch lines still visible on canvas in upper right corner which adds immeasurably to the interest in this work. The frame has a chip at bottom and a slight split in corner. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
