Magnificent, Unsigned Early 19th Century Dutch Painting On Wood. Still Life and the Artist Very much of the early 19th Century Dutch realism school comes this magnificent oil-on-wood panel painting. It appears to be the work of Karel Hansen (1760 - 1840) or very much his style. Here an artist is at his canvas painting a still life of a pitcher, fruit, cup and plate on a table in his large studio, drapes pulled back to achieve desired lighting, while a woman rests herself on his chair, very much his muse. The detail is astonishing; the faces, the fabrics and the aged walls and floors all rendered in exquisite detail. Panel just at 20 x 16" framed in an elaborate gilt wood frame 24 x 20" Panel is unsigned, and in excellent condition. Striking. Estimate Value $1,400 - UP
