Hansen, Armin -- Celebrated Monterey, California Artist. The Graders (1886-1957) Born in San Francisco, Hansen spent time four years of his young adult life on Norwegian steam trawlers. He settled in 1913 in Monterey, instrumental in forming the Carmel Art Institute and lived at the same studio/home until his death. His seascapes, coastal scenes, and life within the fishing industry of the Monterey Peninsula brought him great accalim in American art. Offered is one of his fine dry point etchings on paper entitled "The Graders," date ca. 1919, depicting a rural farm scene in Monterey, California at the turn of the 20th Century. It is titled in pencil in the left white border and signed by the artist in pencil on the right. Etching meausures 7¼ x 9½" and has been archivally matted and framed recently to 16¼ x 18¼" by a gallery in Pacific Grove, Ca. Examined in frame piece is in excellent condition as is the museum quality framing. Estimate Value $1,250 - UP
