Braun, Maurice -- Celebrated Southern California Artist (1877-1941) Golden Gate Park Golden Gate Park established in 1871 is one of the crown jewels of San Francisco. At 1017 acres, it is larger than Central Park and boasts on average 13 million visitors a year. Maurice Braun was born in Hungary but immigrated to the US, establishing residence in NYC. There he studied for five years and became a successful portrait artist. His move to San Diego, California saw him expand his work to focus on impressionist landscapes, most of his works capturing the allure of the early 20th Century West Coast. Here he has captured a period couple in their stylish finest while a humble Padre looks on. A clash of cultures, possibly, but also immensely charming. Oil on panel, 8 x 10" framed to 13 x 15" with two biographies of the artist taped on verso. Braun has signed at lower right. Estimate Value $900 - UP

Realized $960
