19th Century Painting of St. John and the Poisoned Cup. Saint John and the Poisoned Cup The Feast of Saint John, a ritual where the religious superior blesses wine which is then drunk at the meal. This commemorates the legend that once, while at Ephesus, John was given a cup of poisoned wine to drink. Before drinking, he blessed the cup and the poison departed the cup in the form of a serpent. Offered here is a gorgeous oil on canvas that symbolizes the popular miracle story. Oil on canvas 18 x 15" recently re-stretched and framed to 24 x 21". An extremely compelling work, painting is unsigned, has minor crazing due to age but in excellent condition. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
