D. W. Griffith's BIRTH OF A NATION -- Two Scarce Programs. Two vintage original printed, three-colored soft cover programs. The larger, much rarer version was specific to exclusive engagement theaters, this particular edition for the Lyric Theater in Minneapolis and measures 12" x 9½". The slightly smaller one measures 10¾" x 8¼"; these were available in wider releases. Each bound with decorative cording, with photos from the now-controversial film and biographies of Griffith and his players. The program was published by Epoch Producing Corp .for D.W. Griffith's 1915 silent film, which chronicles the Civil War through Reconstruction and the emergence of the Ku Klux Klan; based on the novel and play "The Clansman," by Thomas Dixon, Jr. Griffith co-wrote the screenplay and the film. "The Birth of a Nation" was the very first motion picture screened in the White House by President Woodrow Wilson, a segregationist from Virginia.
