Seven Rare Signatures From The Golden Era of Hollywood: John Garfield, Leslie Howard, Al Jolson, George Arliss and Lauren Bacall. Superb collection of screen stars who each made significant contributions to Hollywood's Golden Age of Cinema. John Garfield (Postman Always Rings Twice, Body and Soul and Humoresque) and Leslie Howard (Gone With The Wind's Ashley Wilkes, Petrified Forest, and First of the Few) died far too young in their careers, Garfield from a coronary and Howard shot down in the plane he was in over Bay of Biscay by Luftwaffe Junkers. Their signatures are obviously scarce and highly prized. Garfield has boldly inscribed and signed an 8 x 10" portrait (minor evidence of handling) and Howard a 5 x 7" sepia portrait (black fountain pen ink signed across jacket and dark background but still quite legible). Also, a 5 x 7" Al Jolson, a legend after the first commercial talkie THE JAZZ SINGER, a signed 8 x 10" of the superb Lauren Bacall and finally a rare autograph on page (3 x 4") of George Arliss, a huge star in the 20s and 30s and the first British Actor to win an Oscar (DISRAELI) Finally a signed and inscribed note by Howard Fast author of SPARTACUS and a signed 5 x 7" photo of Leopold Stowkowski, who was the orchestra conductor of FANTASIA (slight crease) and two unsigned photos, one of Edward G. Robinson. Estimate Value $300 - UP
