[Spanish American War] U.S. Silk Regimental Battle Flag With 45 Stars. Very scarce, military grade battle flag with the following characteristics: large, almost square-- 66 x 53 in.-- with 45 embroidered stars on each side of the canton, bullion fringe, and red, white, and blue sleeve along hoist edge. Some small splits at edges and a couple of small repairs otherwise in very good condition. Utah became the 45th state in 1896. The 45-star flag was used from then until 1907 when Oklahoma became a state. This was a patriotic period because the Spanish American War took place in 1898. A flag like this one was raised following the successful assault on San Juan Heights, made famous because of the participation of Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
