Pearl Harbor -- Actual Teletype Sent on December 7, 1941: AIRRAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NO DRILL. An incoming teletype from COMMANDER AIRCRAFT, SCOUTING FORCE, classified "URGENT" at 071830 on 7 DEC 41 with a one-line message: AIRRAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NO DRILL. Originator is "CINCPAC" and under Action is "ALL U S NAVY SHIPS PRESENT HAWAIIAN AREA." The light green paper, 7 x 8¼", has some creasing, toning, and soiling. Housed in a 7½ x 9½" metal frame.

The Japanese attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor began just before 8 a.m., damaging or destroying 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. Over 2,400 Americans sailors, soldiers, and civilians died in the attack and another 1,000 people were wounded. On Dec. 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the attack "A day that will live in infamy" and asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Estimate Value $400 - UP
