World War I -- Including Pershing, Rickenbacker, Sims, Baker, Summerall, Bliss and March, and Others. Collection of 14 items: John J. Pershing, 1931 TLS and unsigned calling card with holograph sentiment; William S. Sims as Rear Admiral, USN, 1921 TLS; Newton Diehl Baker as Secretary of War, 1917 TLS; Charles P. Summerall as Chief of Staff, on War Dept. letterhead, 1927 TLS; Edward V. Rickenbacker, on Fokker Aircraft Corporation of America letterhead, 1930 TLS; General Tasker H. Bliss as "Commissioner Plenipotentiary to Negotiate Peace. Paris…1919"; and signature of General Peyton C. March. Additionally, four letters from France: A 1918 ALS from a doctor signed "Rob" on American Red Cross, Paris letterhead, 7pp, mentioning the quantity of his work, hearing Big Bertha, and having "half the German army's equipment as souvenirs"; a 1918 ALS from Corp. Clarence C. Thiel, C. L 145th Inf., 4 pp, on 145th letterhead, with censured letter and envelope; a 1919 ALS from Sgt. Lawrence R. Sears, 160th Inf., 40th Div. Amer E.F., on letterhead of "Knights of Columbus Overseas Service / On Active Service With American Expeditionary Forces," 2pp, re waiting for transportation home and saying he wouldn't trade Bakersfield for any place he had seen in France; and a 1919 ALS, 4pp, from Lieut, Ausby P. Harness, Co. L, 364 Inf., waiting to return home and writing, "I was in the Meuses Argonne Battle and had nine days of fighting…and then I was in the campaign in Belgium." Also, two pages of handwritten anti-war propaganda, written on letterhead of The Salvation Army With the American Troops in France, with "Aviation Sect." on verso, unsigned.
