Cody, William F. "Buffalo Bill," Rare Inscribed and Double Signed Autograph Leaf, 1903 (1846-1917) One of the most recognizable figures of the American West, William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody was a scout, buffalo hunter, but above all a legendary showman. His Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World. thrilled audiences with his action re-enactments, wagon races, Native Americans and sharp shooters, including Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. He was instrumental in the founding of Cody, Wisconsin and opened a hotel there with his daughter, benefiting from the railway passing through. His later life saw his fortunes diminishing, but he nevertheless remained one of the most recognizable names of the 20th century, celebrated in books, song, theater and, of course, film and later television. Offered is a very fine autograph lifted from a book page signed in black fountain pen ink "True to friend & foe W. F. Cody 'Buffalo Bill' 1903"; particularly fine in that it is signed as both Cody and Buffalo Bill. Signature is excellent. The page sheet measures 2 x 6" and was clearly mounted into some kind of album, as evidenced by the paper lift and crude adhesive on verso that in no way impacts the obverse side which, save for light toning, is quite clean. Comes with COA from AACS autographs. Estimate Value $750 - UP
