Byrd, Richard E., TLS Thanking a Chaplain for Suggestions for Antarctic Expedition and for Volunteering to Join Expedition (1888-1957) Richard Byrd Jr. was an American naval officer and explorer. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor and was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. Offered is a wonderful TLS prior to his first expedition to the Antarctic by ship in 1928. He has responded to suggestions by a very enthusiastic professor of science and chaplain which he writes he shared with his staff. The chaplain also extends an offer to volunteer his services to join the crew for any pastoral needs they might require. Byrd, very politely declines the offer. On Byrd Antarctic Expedition letterhead. 8½ x 11" in excellent condition with normal folds. Estimate Value $125 - UP
