Wodehouse, P.G. -- A Charming, Whimsical Article on His Beginnings as a Writer, Boxing, His First Visit to New York, Etc (1881-1975) British author and humorist. Typed manuscript signed "P.G. Wodehouse" in red marker, titled "Getting Started," 9¼ pages, no date but written in his eighties. In 1902, when "the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank decided…that the only way to keep solvent was to de-Wodehouse itself," he turned to writing and soon earned enough to visit America, primarily, he thinks, to see some of America's pugilists, with whom he was fascinated. He describes his encounters and stories he heard, the use of language, of manners--all with charming humor. Pages are lightly toned but otherwise fine. Estimate Value $250 - UP
