Lot 8

1786 New Jersey Maris 24-P R2 F12. A Curved Beam type that was Double Struck. Sharper by maybe five points but there is an old scuff of vertical scratches on the horse and plow handles. Fortunately the scratches blend nicely into the glossy reddish brown and chocolate toning and are not distracting. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and void of marks, and the eye appeal is nice for the grade. This piece was struck two times. The first impression was slightly off center to K-10 and the second was centered on the planchet. Evidence of the first strike is clearly visible inside the dentil tips on the right side of both the obverse and reverse. The date and legends are complete and clear. Listed on page 71 in the "Redbook." Weight 146.5 grains. Estimate Value $250 - UP

Realized $300
