1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-10 R3 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. PCGS graded AU-55. A Large Planchet variety with two Backwards N's in the legend and without Pellets on either side of the tree trunk. Glossy medium gray and steel. The planchet is smooth and the designs are nicely centered on both sides leaving only the tops of a few letters tight to the edge. The date and Pine Tree are both strong, and both of the Backwards N's are clear (IN on the obverse and the second N in ENGLAND on the reverse). The only defect is a thin mint-made planchet fissure at the bottom, and the fissure does not affect any of the legend. A premium example of a classic American Colonial type and it comes with an excellent provenance that has been traced back for more than 100 years.
