Lot 1868

1859-C. PCGS graded MS-62. Only 5,235 struck. Pop 5; 3 finer in 63. Untoned with some luster evident and clearly a well preserved example of this elusive Dahlonega issue. The Civil War was on the cusp of breaking out, people were afraid of what was to come, uknown as it was. How long would any war last? Many thought, and experts confirmed, it would be a short glorious affair, and everyone would be home in weeks. In the first battles, families came out to watch the fighting with picnics. This social event did not continue long, but the war lasted on and on. Here is a coin that was carefully set aside and preserved, and fitting memento to this historic time in our past (PCGS # 7552) Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000
