Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 104

Lot 1867

1858-D. NGC graded MS-63. Only 3,477 minted. Pop 7; 1 in 64, 1 in 66. Mostly untoned with strong luster in the fields and the strike is reasonably sharp for this rare issue. The Dahlonega Mint was under great stress even by 1858, as the pressures of the Civil War began to boil over into daily life. Mintage of these 1858 gold dollars reflect the problems, as people started to hoard gold with the coming conflict. This is one of the finer examples known today and a coin that is worthy of any top notch collection. Estimate Value $15,000 - 16,000
