Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 104

Lot 1863

1855-D. NGC graded AU-58+. This is a truly rare coin with only 1,811 struck and from the group perhaps as many as 80 distinct coins exist today. This is one of the finer examples, and offers a sharp strike with all of LIBERTY clear on the headband, and the wreath bold. The only signs of softness are the usual weakness on LL of DOLLAR and the 8 in the date, areas opposite Liberty's head and prone to poor striking. This is one of the most sought-after of the Dahlonega issues, and a rare Type II Gold dollar that is seldom offered and always in great demand. Needless to say, this is an exciting offering and a coin that will be a major highlight in any advanced collection. Pop 1; 5 finer, 1 in 60, 1 in 61, 1 in 63, 2 in 64. Mostly untoned. Estimate Value $28,000 - 30,000
