Lot 1261

1795. PCGS graded MS-64. Boldly struck with nice old time toning that ranges from royal blue at the edge to lighter silver at the centers. The strike is generally sharp for this important type coin, with full flowing curls on Liberty, and the eagle's wing feathers show abudant definition. This is an important type coin, issued only in two short years, 1794 and 1795. The Flowing Hair design was retired at the end of 1795 and the Draped Bust style was adopted as 1795 drew to a close. In fact, one obverse die of the new style was prepared and dated 1795, but not used for coinage. In early 1796, that obverse was overdated with a 6 over the 5 and producion of the new style began. Hence this Flowing Hair coin is a tough issue to locate in high grades, and is in constant strong demand. Exceptional preservation, with unending eye appeal. Pop 34; 36 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 4251) Estimate Value $19,000 - 20,000
