Lot 1187

1856. NGC graded Proof 65. This is a truly rare early Proof from this popular series. The Three-cent piece was launched in 1851, by 1856 coin collecting was starting to grow rapidly in this country. Hence demand for proof examples was growing. After striking fewer than a dozen proof coins in most prior years, production increased in 1856 to about 60 pieces struck. This of course is tiny by today's standards. Here is one of the finer examples, with glorious toning and majestic surfaces. Pop 5; 7 finer at NGC. Nice blue toning on both sides. Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000
