Lot 314

1794 S-58 R3 VF25. Ten points sharper but the planchet is incomplete at the rim over UN in UNITED (as struck). The missing planchet metal on the reverse caused some weakness at the opposing dentils over the cap and above the L in LIBERTY, and there are some tiny planchet chips around the adjacent IBE. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and the devices are nicely struck on a problem-free planchet. Glossy medium olive brown and chocolate, the reverse a few shades lighter than the obverse. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on either side. Graded VF35 sharpness net VF20 by Noyes, his photo #33736. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex John W. Garrett, Stack's 3/1976:24-Tom Reynolds 12/27/2000-Terry Denman.

Realized $3,525
