Lot 313

1794 S-57 R1 F15. At least ten points sharper but there is fine roughness on the upper part of the obverse, strongest at LIBERTY. The remainder of the planchet is smooth. No verdigris, just a few small contact marks including a couple rim nicks at TE in UNITED. The strike was uneven thanks to axially misaligned dies (the die faces were not perfectly parallel) causing the upper part of the obverse and lower part of the reverse to be softly struck while everything else is strong. Glossy reddish medium chocolate brown. Rare EDS, Breen state I, with die clashmarks on the reverse but before the depression formed over ICA in AMERICA. The edge lettering is blundered with an extra ONE under DOL. A rare die state and a neat mint error. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP

Realized $823
