Lot 303

1794 S-18b R4 Head of 1793 NGC graded MS61 Brown. The obverse is frosty light to medium brown with microscopic specks of dark toning scattered over the lower half. The reverse is frosty olive brown and chocolate with a couple small spots of lighter brown toning. Satiny mint luster shows in the fields and protected areas, particularly on the reverse. No contact marks or verdigris, just a touch of rub on the highest points of the portrait. The reverse looks mint state. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks on the reverse but no swelling on either side. This variety often has weakness at UNITED, but everything is well struck on this example. A very nice example of the Head of 1793 type of 1794 large cent. Our grade is AU55 sharpness net AU50+ for the tiny specks. Pop 19; 16 finer at NGC. Estimate Value $50,000 - UP
