Lot 230

1857 C-1 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Very attractive lustrous light greenish olive. The best identifying features are a tiny struck-through line right of the date (as struck) and a faint puff of slightly darker bluish steel toning at AM in AMERICA. Rare very early die state (VEDS) with smooth, hard fields and fine diagonal die polishing lines in the fields at ES-OF-AMER. In addition there is sharp, clear doubling on the legend outside the wreath, especially on OF AMERICA. A beautiful half cent. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $500 - UP
