Lot 225

1856 C-1 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous bright mint red fading to light steel brown with about two-thirds of the original mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The best identifying marks are a tiny swipe of darker toning on the rim left of star 1 and a couple ticks in the dentils over UN in UNITED. MDS, Manley state 2.0 early. The lump on the upright of the I in UNITED is weak but still visible. The dash right of the top of the 6 is clear and the die line at the leaf under ES in STATES is sharp. Our grade is MS63+. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $500 - UP
