Lot 20

1795 C-2b R6+ Punctuated Date, Thin Planchet VG10. Sharpness VF20 but the planchet is dark and covered with extremely fine roughness under rather glossy dark olive brown and olive toning. No verdigris. The only marks are some fine hairline scratches hidden in the toning on both sides. The only mark visible without the aid of a good glass is a scratch from the rim through the L in LIBERTY to the hair near the cap. LDS, Manley state 3.0, with HALF CENT weakly struck (as usual) and bulges at AMER. A curved planchet clip reaches just inside the dentils over TY and to the right and above the opposing ICA. Struck on a thin plain edge planchet that weighs only 66.0 grains versus the thin planchet standard of 84.0 grains, but the mint clip error has to account for some of the difference. An important example of this very rare variety. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
