Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 103

Lot 1720

1856-S. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC. PQ. Boldly struck and untoned. Very close to MS-63 in terms of quality, with the eye appeal certainly at the choice level. These large double eagles are struck in fairly soft gold, so any nicks or bagmarks tend to be magnified by the surfaces, and the open fields and Liberty's cheek are always prone to even the slightest grazes from normal handling. Finding an example this attractive is certainly worthy of note, and any collector would do well in acquiring such a splendid example (PCGS # 8919) Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000

Realized $10,869
