Lot 171

1828 C-3 R1 13 Stars PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red fading to medium steel brown on the devices with 25% of the obverse and at least 50% of the reverse showing original mint color. The only marks are a line of dull, very light ticks on the neck and a spot of darker olive toning at the top of TE in UNITED. Otherwise this piece is a gem. MDS, Manley state 2.0. The spine from the leaf over the H in HALF is long and sharp, and there is a finely doubled set of die clashmarks inside the wreath. A curved planchet clip affects the dentils above the head and the opposing ones under the wreath ribbon (as struck). A beautiful mint error. Our grade is MS63+. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $1,250 - UP
Ex Bowers & Merena 11/2/2005-The Green Tree Collection.
