Lot 126

1809 C-2 R3 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. The obverse is lustrous medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highest points of the design; the reverse is frosty steel brown and light chocolate with splashes of darker chocolate and olive. A couple of these darker areas contain traces of extremely fine carbon. This half cent has mint state eye appeal but there is a light rim bruise at star 7 and those small stains of darker toning on the reverse. M-LDS, Manley state 3.0. Stars 2-6 are now connected by a fine die crack and the reverse is rotated 135 degrees CW. Called MS60 in the Breen census, and it has been graded at that level in several significant auctions. Clearly superior to the Manley plate coin for the die state. Our grade is AU50. Near the top of the condition census for the variety, and it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 62 for the variety. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
