Lot 566

1796. Large date, small letters. B-5, BB-65, Rarity 2. PCGS graded EF-40. Nice even toning on both sides with smooth wear and attractive gray to lighter silver hues. There is a moderate nick on Liberty's neck, and another nick on the eagle's thigh. The Draped Bust, Small Eagle design has proven to be one of the most popular of this early Federal era, and demand far oustrips the coins offered, especially in EF or finer. The obverse design of Liberty is quite attractive, and the well balanced small eagle on the reverse is well suited from a design standpoint to the laurel and palm wreath which encircles him. Only 79,920 struck. Pop 5; 9 finer at PCGS for the variety. (PCGS # 40002) Estimate Value $6,000 - 6,500

Realized $5,581
