Judea Capta. Vespasian, 69-79 AD. Lot of Two AE Sestertii, Rome mint, struck 70-71 AD. . Hen-777. Both scarce to rare, and in demand historical types. Laureate head of Vespasian right. Reverse: Victory standing right, foot resting on helmet, about to inscribe shield attached to palm tree; below, at right, dejected Jewess right; VICTORIA A-VGVSTI, SC in exergue. Cf. Hendin 777 for reverse; RIC 397. Other coin: Laureate head of Vespasian right. Reverse: Flanking palm tree, Vespasian stands right in military attire, foot resting on helmet, holding spear and parazonium; to right of palm, dejected Jewess right, seated on cuirass, helmet and shield behind; IVDAEA CAPTA, SC in exergue. RIC 427. Lot of 2 coins. First with bold portrait, but lightly double struck on reverse; edge and obverse fields with some ancient chisel marks. Both coins with dark brown patinas and slight orichalcum highlights. First About Very Fine; second Very Good.
