Sale 1

Lot 523

Peace Dollar. 1921 Peace. MS-63. Struck like a satin finish Proof. The obverse has reflective surfaces, so careful study is recommended. As noted in Breen, the triangular pellet stop after TRUST is bolder than the others, and die file lines are noted beneath the delicate gray toning. More than anything else, the strike is unusually bold for this issue, which is always found weak at the centers, not so here, with bold, crisp central details. A coin worthy of additional study as it may be one of the exceedingly rare Satin Finish pieces (Breen notes 2 known in his Encyclopedia of Proof coins). Still and all a rare coin so fully struck.
