Half Dollar. 1836 Reeded Edge. NGC graded MS-64. A better than average struck example with exceptionally choice satiny mint lustre; all, is enhanced by medium even lilac toning mixed with golden highlights. This lovely gem should stir considerable bidder interest among both type collectors and bust half enthusiasts. A very rare date as a mere 1200 were struck using Gobrecht's new design for the steam press. NGC population of only 2 with 2 higher.
For many years this issue was thought of as a pattern, however, new research has proven that these half dollars were in fact made for general circulation and as such, is one of the key dates in the entire half dollar series.
