Herod I (the Great), 40 B.C. - 4 A.D. AE 8 prutot, struck 40 A.D. Rarely seen this choice. Tripod, ceremonial bowl above, date (Year 3) and monogram. Reverse: Military helmet, facing, wreath featuring acanthus leaf around, cheek pieces and straps, star above flanked by two palm branches. Hen. 486; AJC II, 235, 1. Attractive greenish-brown with earthen highlights. Extremely Fine.
