Appointing Marlborough Whiling "Cornet of a Company raised in the fifth Division of Militia in this Commonwealth comprehending the Counties of Plimouth Barnstable Bristol Dukes County and Nantucket." Cornet was originally the third and lowest grade of commissioned officer in a British cavalry troop, after captain and lieutenant. It was abolished in the U.S. Army in 1815, along with the rank of ensign. Estimate Value $7,000 - 9,000
