Barton, Clara - Letter Signed on American National Red Cross Letterhead (1821-1912) Educator, nurse, and founder of the American Red Cross. Typed letter signed "Clara Barton" as president and treasurer of the Red Cross, 2 pages, on The American National Red Cross Letterhead, 10¾ x 8¼", Washington, June 19, 1895. To a young woman named Clara Barton Clinton, sending words of support and hoping to see her soon. In part, "… I am always glad to hear from you….in some way, you seem almost to belong to me…You must not feel, my dear girl, that your life is useless, you are doubtless filling your role worthily and bravely and it will count, in the end, with the rest. I am preparing to leave Washington for a summer outing of several weeks at Thousand Islands…." Toned, with heavy fold wear to second page. With original envelope.

Accompanied by a group of five covers with cachets honoring Miss Barton, as well as a printed card announcing that Miss Barton is at home "to meet the Survivors of the late War," and two invitations to receptions, one of them to be held in the rotunda of the Capitol, and a.
