Lot 75

1826 N-3 R3 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lighter olive and steel toning in protected areas on the reverse. Looks near mint state to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a bit of light smoothing on the highpoints of the cheek and chin. Otherwise this cent is virtually flawless. M-LDS with a series of narrow rim cud breaks from star 5 to star 8. Graded AU50 net EF40 and tied for CC#11 in the Noyes census, his photo #22166. Bland says AU50. A variety that is difficult to find in high grades; Noyes lists only 5 graded better than EF45 in his census. Our grade is EF45. The attribution and Wyatt-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer, 1 in 63, 1 in 64 for the variety. PCGS #36817. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Ex Harry DeVore-Russell Wyatt, Superior 9/30/1985:501-Dennis Mendelson, Superior 2/3/1991:339 (via Chris McCawley)-Manuel Ahumada Collection (includes the Wyatt Collection pillbox, the Mendelson collection envelope, and both lot tickets).
