Lot 74

1826 N-1 R2 PCGS graded MS64+ Brown, CAC Approved. Gorgeous medium steel and chocolate with a few small peeps of faded mint color on both sides. A sharp, lustrous cent. The only marks, and they are inconsequential, are a tiny diagonal nick midway between the chin and the lower point of star 3 and two microscopic planchet flakes on the jaw. EDS. There are very fine die clashmarks on both sides but the rim cud break over star 6 has not formed. The two dashes just right of the date (remnants of a badly misplaced star?) are sharp. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #35661. Bland says MS61 and tied for CC#2 in his census. Our grade is MS62. The attribution and Brown-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #36814. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Stack's (privately) 1982-Denis Loring-R. S. Brown, Jr., Superior 9/30/1986::602-Manuel Ahumada Collection (includes the Brown collection envelope and lot ticket).
