Lot 361

1847 N-39 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium steel brown and light olive with 20% of the bright original mint color remaining on both sides. An attractive cent that looks flawless to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a few trivial marks. The notable ones are a small splash of darker toning at the dentils over the left side of star 7, a tiny diagonal nick in the middle of the cheek right of the nostril and a small pinprick under the end of the wreath stem. LDS, die state b. There is a die crack that meanders through the tops of MER in AMERICA and the fine diagonal die lines through the O in ONE are gone. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63, and tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only MS RB example of the variety. PCGS #37362. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley-Gene Heard Collection.
