Lot 24

1818 N-3 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Very attractive lustrous light bluish steel brown with 15-20% of the mellowed mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. This cent offers outstanding eye appeal with just a few minor marks. The notable marks are a dull diagonal nick in the field under star 8, a small spot of darker toning at the upper point of star 11, and a spot of darker toning resting on the top of the T in CENT. Sharply struck EDS with a dull spike up from the junction of the coronet tip and hair above the L in LIBERTY and several small lumps in the field right of stars 3 & 4. Called MS63 and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS63 and CC#2 overall but finest of the early die state, his photo #20908. Our grade is MS63. Another really great cent in this fabulous collection. And it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #36608. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
