Lot 179

1838 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS66 Red & Brown. Lustrous bluish steel and light olive with more than a third of the planchet showing bright mint color. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. A tiny speck of dark toning near a dentil tip left of the date and a thin, barely visible nick on the lower part of star 7 are the best identifying marks, but they are otherwise insignificant. E-MDS with "phantom dentils" on the rim at stars 11-13. The spike from the leaf tip under the R in AMERICA is long and sharp. A wonderful cent. Not seen by Noyes or Bland. Our grade is MS65. The attribution and Manuel Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; tied for finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #37196. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
